After starting construction on a second casino in the Lake Havasu area, the Chemehuevi Tribal Council has announced that the venue should be done by April of 2018. The construction of the casino project began this past April and once completed, the venue will include gaming machines, a hotel for guests, swimming pool and more. The venue will replace the existing casino operated by the tribe, according to?Executive Secretary,?Gjrjle Dunlap.

Havasu News reported that the tribal council stated that the new?casino should be completed in a 16-month time frame, that is of course if plans stay on schedule. The location of the gaming venue will be just a quarter mile from the existing?Havasu Landing Resort and Casino. The tribe and the casino are located on the California side of Lake Havasu.

The casino will have 25,000 square feet of gaming space and will include 320 gaming machines and 6 table games. The hotel space will offer four stories with a restaurant and marina on site as well. Bill Cox is the Tribal Planner who stated that the marina is almost complete and site work has begun. Buildings should begin popping up by April or May of last year.

With the design of the casino, the tribe has the ability to expand the gaming venue if they so choose. According to Cox, the casino project was able to move along after the Environmental Impact Report was approved. No issues were found within the report to stop construction. Along with the report approval, the tribe had to receive permits from San Bernardino County as well as the Army Corps of Engineers.

By completion, the casino project has a projected cost of $35 to $40 million.

This article has been updated to reflect that the new casino is to replace, not in addition to the existing casino,?and to make clear the casino is located on the California side of the lake.
