Although the development company hasn’t made a major media announcement, electronic billboards in?D’Iberville, Mississippi are announcing that?Scarlet Pearl Casino will open on December 9th. Even before the $300 million casino opens its doors, the city is already making plans on more than $1 million expected to be added to?D’Iberville’s general fund every year.
Local media are reporting that city officials, who have worked to bring a casino to the Biloxi Back Bay town since the early 1990’s, have been given a pay raise and roads all across the city are being paved, repaved, and repaired, bolstering an infrastructure that will see?harder use by casino visitors.
City beautification projects are underway as well. The city has matched a $20,000 grant from?Lowe’s to install palm trees and spiff up the?Interstate 110 exit that visitors will use to access the casino and 14 story hotel featuring?234 guestrooms, 56 Luxury Suites, and 10 Penthouse Suites. $31 million has already been spent on city access pints which will be enhanced as well.
Three fire trucks have been invested in including a platform ladder truck capable of reaching the top floors of the hotel. The city will donate their older equipment to other fire departments in?Pearl River County. Used trucks don’t bring in much money and the enhancement to other districts fire fighting abilities will increase?safety for the community in general. The county’s volunteer fire department had exhausted all avenues of acquiring equipment and now areas previously unprotected can be covered.
Scarlet Pearl Casino could generate over $1 million a year for the city’s general fund along with over $600,000 for schools and public safety in the city ?and more than $300,000 will go to the county for educational purposes and public safety.
