In Pennsylvania, for October, Hollywood Casino at Penn National, Valley Forge Casino Resort and Parx Casino once again led all 16 of the state’s land-based casinos, with just a slight reshuffling from the month prior, while another strong performance from sports betting and record-setting iGaming revenue was reported by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) on Thursday.

According to the report, the combined total revenue generated from all sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB, including slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports betting, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs), during October was $450.2 million, an increase of 5.71 percent from the $425.9 million reported for October 2021.

Record Highs

Meanwhile, the all-time record for handle set by sportbooks in the Keystone State saw a total of $797.1 million last month, which was up 2.7 percent from October last year at $776.3 million (the previous record for sportsbook handle), and a $151.9 million swell from September 2022.

Also recording a record high month of October were Pennsylvania online casinos, including poker, which reached $151.7 million in gross revenue, up approximately $4 million from the previous record for gross revenue set by the state’s online casinos in March 2022 at $147.7 million.

Commenting on the achievement, PlayPennsylvania’s Managing Editor Chris Imperiale said

“While year-over-year sports betting growth is beginning to level off, the online casino market continues to show tremendous growth.

“PA online casinos’ $151 million October gross gaming revenue is an all-time, all-market record for iGaming in the US. October also made Pennsylvania the first state in the nation to cross $1 billion in tax revenue, beating out the much more mature neighboring New Jersey market.”

Sports Betting

According to the PGCB, October 2022 figures for sports betting in the state saw handle at $797.1 million, up 19.1 percent MoM and a year-over-year (YoY) increase of 2.7 percent. The month’s $61.3 million in revenue was an 18 percent month-over-month (MoM) decrease and a YoY increase of 45.5 percent, with (taxable) Adjusted Gross Revenue at $40.5 million.

Numbers for online casino and poker in Pennsylvania for October 2022, saw online slots revenue of $113.5 million; online tables games revenue at $35.7 million and $2.5 million in revenue for online poker, which in addition to the U.S. is a favorite of players across the globe, including Australia where sites such as Ignition Poker are leading the way.

Online Poker

As far as iGaming poker revenue for last month, $2.5 million was reported, a 12.72 percent decrease over $2.8 million from October 2021. Revenue from iGaming slots, meanwhile, led the way with $86.3 million for October 2022, up 22.05 percent from the same time the previous year at $70.7 million.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National led the way in October 2022 for online casino revenue, with $52.7 million in total internet games revenue, including $35.2 million for Internet slots, $17.2 million for Internet tables games and $308,814 for Internet poker. Rivers Casino Philadelphia was a distant second out of 10, with total Internet games revenue of $29. 3 million. Valley Forge Casino Resort reported $23.4 million in iGaming revenue.

October was the fourth month in a row that gaming revenue topped $420 million in the Commonwealth State and the eighth of 10 months this year that revenue eclipsed $400 million.

Brick-and-Mortars

As mentioned, Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantville maintained the number one spot for land-based casinos in Pennsylvania this October with revenue of $68.7 million, a 20.4 percent increase over the same time last year. Generating $56.5 million, an increases of 31.7 percent YoY, Valley Forge Resort Casino in King of Prussia took the lead from Parx Casino based in Philadelphia, which brought in $54.9 million, a 4.2 percent decrease.

Everything wasn’t all roses in October, however, with slot revenue dropping across the state for the second consecutive month. Ten of? the 16 brick-and-mortar casinos reported decreases for the month, with Hollywood Casino at Penn National reporting $12.5 million in total revenue for October 2022, a 17.60 percent slide from $15.1 million the same time last year.

The top earner was Parx Casino, generating $32 million, a YoY decrease of 4.9 percent, while Wind Creek Bethlehem reported $22.3 million, a 4.2 percent decline from October 2021, and Rivers Casino came in 3rd, with its reported $21.7 million a 4.98 percent decrease.

As for sports wagering, the top three earners were Valley Forge Resort Casino, which produced a handle of $292 million and $22.1 million in revenue; Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands’ handle was $231.1 million, while revenue was $7.8 million; and generating revenue of $2.6 million out of a total handle of $33.3 million, was Rivers Casino Pittsburgh.
