An Attorney for Arizona developer Steve Johnson made a promise to Las Vegas City Council in early August.? The promise was a huge sign with a new casino, restaurant, and retail establishments at the city line on the Las Vegas Strip by the end of next year.? Mayor Oscar Goodman and Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese had advised the lawyer that they wanted something spectacular at that intersection.? The site was the home of the former Holy Cow Brewery, which closed in 2002.? Mr. Johnson purchased the property in 2007.
The Council gave their approval to the planned 98-foot tall, 11,200 square-foot electronic sign and 37,100 square-foot building at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.? The massive sign is second only to the 11,500 square-foot video screen at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.? The Cowboy’s sign is “The World’s Biggest.”? The Casino will consume 9,000 square feet of the building.? There will be no hotel.
