First-quarter slot machine revenues in New Zealand?have increased by 3% from the same period last year despite an apparent fall in the numbers of venues, machines and licence holders.

According to official figures from the nation’s Department Of Internal Affairs, the machines brought in NZ$6.3 million ($4.4 million) for the first three months of 2016, while the number of licences declined by 6% year-on-year to 292.

The quarterly report also found that there had been a 4% decline year-on-year in the numbers of venues offering slots to 1,224 while the country was home to some 16,274 machines, which represented a 2% drop.

The Department Of Internal Affairs report only captured data from non-casino gaming facilities such as pubs and clubs although the regulator stated that 87% of slots are in these types of venues.
