In a recent interview, Procurator-General Cao Jianming, stated that a new ‘super’ anti-graft bureau will be created and used to investigate cases of corruption that correspond with high-ranking officials. The central government has approved the plan for the new anti-graft bureau and will be staffed by senior prosecutors of the highest experience.

The hope is that the new bureau will strengthen the anti-corruption capacities of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. The job of the bureau will be to investigate those suspected of corruption before the individual’s case is passed on to the procuratorates. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate has revealed that the bureau will be considered a vice-ministerial level group which will rank higher than a standard bureau.

The new bureau will ?be merged with three existing departments; ?the Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery Bureau, the Investigation of Dereliction of Duty and Power Abuse Department, and Prevention of Duty-Related Crimes Department. It is believed by many that the current crack-down affecting Macau junket visits and revenues is directly related to this action.
