After the bribery case in Hong Kong was revealed in May last year, the sales manager who has been charged with offering various bribes has pleaded guilty.?
Guilty over the bribery:
The employee and former director admitted that they offered bribes to Wynn Macau’s director. The bribes were related to maintenance contracts, and the total amount of money in question was about HK$34 million (US$4.3 million).
The Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) last year discovered that former members of two air-conditioner maintenance contractors offered bribes worth HK$1.5 million (US$191.594) to the former director of Wynn Macau hotel group. The contracts were about HK$22 million (US$2.8 million) worth.
According to ICAC, the Senior Sales Manager of Oh Luen Air Conditioning Equipment Limited, Li Kin-wang, admitted five different violations on September 11 at the District Court. Among the charges was bribery.
He is also accused of offering advantage to one of the agents, as well as of being part of the conspiracy to offer advantages to the agent. The judge postponed the case until September 18, and Li was granted the bail.
Asia Gaming Brief reports that two companies that allegedly committed fraud, Oh Luen and Wai Luen Air-conditioning Limited, were Macau and Hong Kong companies that belong to the same proprietor and have the same offering when it comes to the installation and maintenance of air conditioners.
Oh Luen signed the supplier contract with Wynn Resorts for its Macau property in 2013. According to Li, he began bribing the director. The bribery was related to offering various opportunities for Oh Luen on various tenders and quotations related to its offering in Wynn casinos.
Long-lasting fraud:
Three bribes worth more than HK$450,000 (US$57.477) were paid to the director via cheques or bank transfers. Li confessed to the fraud, which was committed between June 2014 and July 2015, as well as between November 2016 and January 2017.?
During that period, Li also conspired with the former director of Wai Luen and paid him two bribes worth a total HK$560,000 (US$71.527)?
In three years, between 2014 and 2017, Oh Luen won a lot of tenders in Wyn. In total, they were worth about HK$34 million.?
Oh Luen pleaded guilty, but Wai Luen didn’t want to admit two conspiracy charges. The trial began at the District Court in September.
Hong Kong authorities said to Asia Gaming Brief that both the Macau Commission Against Corruption and Wynn are ready to provide the full assistance required during the investigation and the process in case ICAC needs it.
